Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) noted that there remains at least 612 Foreign Exchange Operations (KUPVA) Not Bank or commonly known as a money changer who do not have permission. Jabodetabek, Lhokseumawe, Bali, East Kalimantan and Kediri into five regions that have the largest KUPVA unlicensed.

Head of the Department of Policy and Payment System Oversight of Bank Indonesia, Eni V. Panggabean said the KUPVA 612 must register to BI until the deadline of 7 April 2017. If not, the business of money changer will be closed.

"If there are KUPVA Not Bank is not licensed until April 7, 2017, Bank Indonesia will recommend the suspension of operations or revocation of business licenses," he said when met at a press conference at Bank Indonesia, Jakarta, Monday (01/30/2017).

Eni said that, after the expiry of the time limit, the central bank will coordinate with the Indonesian National Police (Polri), the Center for Financial Transaction Reporting and Analysis (PPATK), and the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), in the control operation KUPVA not the Bank unlicensed.

This is done to prevent the use of KUPVA Not Bank for laundering drug money transactions, financing of terrorism or other crimes. Jada 1,064 Licensed Money Changer, Most in Jakarta

Total money changer who has permission to date there are 1,064 KUPVA. This number increased from 2015 as many as 994 KUPVA.

As for the 1064 KUPVA most numerous in the Greater Jakarta area by 38%, 14% Riau Islands, Bali 13%, 6% Serang, North Sumatra 5%, and 24% rest are scattered in other provinces.

"There are 1,064 KUPVA Non-Bank has obtained a license to date, and 612 KUPVA Non-Bank is not licensed. Of the amount authorized it, most in Jabodetabek 38%," said Eni.

Based on BI data, the number of transactions organizers KUPVA Not Bank steadily increased since 2013 to 2016. In 2013, total transactions KUPVA Not Bank reached Rp 190.158 billion, up 30% from the previous year.

2014 rose 8% to Rp 205.123 billion. Furthermore, in 2015 the total transactions reached USD 253.056 billion, up 23%. And in 2016 KUPVA Non-bank transactions reached USD 257.479 billion, up 2%.
