                         THE ROLE OF CULTURE IN THE SHAPING OF PERSONALITY

 

INTRODUCTION
Culture or cultures derived from Sanskrit which buddhayah, which is the plural of buddhi (mind or intellect), which means matters relating to the mind and human reason. In English culture called culture, which is derived from the Latin word Colere, ie processing or working. Culture or culture is the whole idea and objects made or created by humans in the development history. Experts agree that culture is human behavior and adjustment based on things learned.
All culture is always orderly, beautiful wholesome, noble, giving a sense of peace, happy, happy, and so on. Cultural nature of a sign and the size of the low-high civilization of each nation.
Types of Culture:
a) Life-mystical man, namely that raises its peaceful orderly life-traditions of indigenous peoples with a smooth and beautiful; peacefulness of the country orderly administration; orderly peacefull religion or mysticism and morality.
b) human Wishful thinking, namely that can lead to the sublime language, literature and morality.
c) the human intellect, which is causing all sorts of intelligence about the company land, commercial, craft, cruise, traffic relations, art manifold; everything is beautiful (Dewantara; 1994).

Many weaknesses, obstacles, strength and opportunities in maintaining resilience in our country's culture. To simplify the explanation, the author will use SWOT analysis in order to give a picture of the situation facing or may face in terms of maintaining the culture as national defense. SWOT analysis itself is a form of analysis of the circumstances that are descriptive (illustrate). This analysis consists of four basic components:
1) Strength (Strength) is the circumstances that constitute the strength of the area's cultural role in strengthening the national culture.
2) Weakness (Weakness) is a situation or condition which is the weakness of local cultural role in strengthening the national culture.
3) Opportunity (Opportunity) is a situation or condition that is an opportunity of strengthening the role of regional culture in the national culture.
4) Threat (barrier) is a situation or condition that the barriers that could threaten the existence of local cultural role in strengthening the national culture.

II. 1. Strength
a) The specificity of Indonesian culture; Indonesia has a local cultural diversity that can be used as an asset that can not be equated with the local culture of other countries.
b) The existence of an ethical guidelines of national life; every tribe in Indonesia has different habits, but they have the same goal for the good of their tribe.
c) science and technology evolve.
d) Application of the 'Culture' which has been widely applied in each layer of the educational strata.

II.2. Weakness
a) The lack of public awareness; lack of public awareness in preserving local culture in each region can erode cultural traits.
b) Effect of foreign cultures; The lack of a filter against foreign cultures which could damage national identity.
c) Lack of interest generation of people to learn the local culture more deeply.

II.3. Opportunity
The field of tourism; Indonesian local culture better known in the international world by developing a system of tourism.

II.4. Barriers
a) technological advances; Progress of science and technology erode the existing culture.
b) Changes in nature; Nature continues to evolve with the changing times to make a challenge in an effort to preserve the existing culture.
c) The influence of foreign culture; The government plays an important role in the preservation of culture with the influx of foreign culture without the filter, if not addressed will quickly shift the existing local culture.
